The Model Alliance
ModelScouts.com Supports the Model Alliance
At ModelScouts our utmost priority is the health, welfare and safety of the models we represent. It is extremely important to us that all models are provided with safe working environments, receive fair and full compensation for their work, and that agencies, photographers and clients comply with industry standards. That is why ModelScouts supports The Model Alliance.
The Model Alliance is a growing network of models and industry leaders dedicated to improving working conditions in the American fashion industry.
Established by professional model Sara Ziff, with the assistance of fellow models and the Fashion Law Institute at Fordham Law School, the Model Alliance is a not-for-profit organization (application for recognition of 501(c)(3) status pending).
The Model Alliance believes that models deserve fair treatment in their workplace, and aims to establish ethical standards that will bring real and lasting change to the fashion industry as a whole.
The Model Alliance aims to:
- Identify the unique needs of working models in the U.S. and address those needs through expert and confidential support;
- Educate models about their rights and provide a forum that allows models to share their experiences, voice their concerns and build a community;
- Organize models to establish basic rights and protections in their workplace that will enhance the health and vitality of the American fashion industry as a whole.
In partnership with Actors’ Equity and the American Guild of Musical Artists, The Model Alliance has also introduced a fully confidential grievance reporting system for its members who are dealing with any unlawful or unwanted attention or abuse. Model Alliance Support can advise models of their rights and assist them in finding legal counsel if necessary. In addition, it has worked with models and various stakeholders in the industry to introduce a draft Models’ Bill of Rights to empower models to demand fair treatment from agencies and clients.
Supporters of The Model Alliance include the CFDA, Diane Von Furstenberg, models Coco Rocha, Shalom Harlow, Doutzen Kroes, Crystal Renn, Amy Lemons, Trish Goff, and agents Chris Gay – Marilyn Management, David Bonnouvrier – DNA Models, Scott Lipps – One Model Management, and Micki Schneider – Wilhelmina Models.
