Public Speaking for Models
How Public Speaking Skills Translate Into More Modeling Jobs
There’s a reason public speaking is one of the most common fears shared by people from all walks of life: putting yourself out there in front of a crowd means subjecting yourself to judgment by whoever is listening and watching, and that can be terrifying.
Those who have mastered the art of public speaking (or at least how to get through it without fainting) experience the benefits of these skills throughout a lot of areas in their lives.
While models may not be required to talk much when they are having pictures taken of them, public speaking skills will still benefit their careers in many ways. There are also a lot of other aspects involved with modeling other than posing for pictures, and public speaking skills help with those, too. Here are three of them.
IT’S A CONFIDENCE BOOSTER
Even when a model is posing for pictures and isn’t speaking, whether or not they are a confident person will come across in the photos. Their body language translates a lot of information to whoever is looking at them, and if the model isn’t confident, it will be very clear. Public speaking is a good way to boost your confidence, and knowing you can speak confidently in front of a crowd will also encourage you to pose confidently in front of a camera (and a crowd!).
IT MAKES YOU MEMORABLE
As a model, you will likely attend many modeling open calls and go-sees throughout your career. These involve introducing yourself to several people and often answering questions about yourself and your professional modeling experience. If you can manage to get through these interviews and exchanges confidently, you are far more likely to be remembered by those who are in charge of hiring you, and yes – this will increase your chances of being hired.
IT MAKES YOU LIKEABLE
Most of the big-name models who are popular today are all over social media, and on television and in movies. Models are called upon, more than ever, to share their opinion on certain topics, and to share their favorite styles, beauty products, and more. When a model is comfortable answering these questions and participating in interviews, it helps them come across as more relatable and likable, which translates into growing their fan base and having a more successful modeling career.
